Glycation
Cell & Organ Damage

Glycation is basically when dietary sugar molecules stick to proteins in your body. It's  like when you accidentally get syrup on your shirt – it's hard to get off and can make things stiff.

Here's the thing: when sugar sticks to proteins in your body, it can cause some serious problems that accumulate over time:

  • Aging: Think wrinkles, stiff joints, and even cloudier eyesight. Glycation can make your tissues less flexible and more prone to damage.

  • Chronic Diseases: Conditions like diabetes, heart disease, and even Alzheimer's can be linked to high levels of glycation. This is because glycated proteins can build up and interfere with how your body functions.

  • Inflammation: Glycation can trigger inflammation throughout your body, which can contribute to many health issues.

The good news is that you can take steps to reduce glycation:

  • Healthy Diet: Focus on whole foods like vegetables, some fruit, and lean proteins like meats, fish and some dairy products.  Strictly limit processed/packaged foods, sugary drinks, and fast foods.

  • Control Blood Sugar: Eat a low carbohydrate diet.  If you have diabetes, keeping your blood sugar levels in check is crucial for minimizing glycation.

  • Exercise: Regular physical activity like walking, riding, out-door work, sports, etc... helps improve blood sugar control and overall health.
